Cooking and baking is a great hobby. Not only can you try new things, but you’re left with delicious meals and baked goods that can be shared with your loved ones. If you’re an amateur cook, then you don’t need much equipment to try some new recipes, however, investing in good cookware and bakeware is essential when you start to get serious about your hobby. If you’ve brought some nice new items, it’s essential you know how to clean cookware to ensure it stays looking good. 1. Remove stubborn stains quickly
If you have anything burnt on the pans, it’s important to put them into soak quickly, as this will minimise the amount of food that gets stuck to them. If there are still stubborn stains you simply can’t scrub off, then there are a few steps you can take.

  • Fill the pan with about an inch of water, add some baking soda and soak it overnight. The grime should then lift off easily.
  • Add a little water and salt to the pan and let it simmer on a low heat. The boiling action should lift stubborn stains. Be sure to watch the pan and use caution.
  • Remove burnt milk by sprinkling with salt, leave for 20 minutes then clean off.
  • Crumple a ball of aluminium foil and use it to scour your pans.
  • Place the pan in the freezer for a couple of hours. Burnt on food will then lift off easily.
Be careful if your pan has a non-stick coating. You may need to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific information on how to clean them.
2. Season pans
If your cookware doesn’t come with a non-stick coating, then new pans will need to be seasoned before you use them so they can develop their own layer of protection. This is especially important for woks and skillets, where high temperatures will be used. Simply coat the pan interior with some oil, and heat it until smoking. Once cooled off, wipe with some kitchen roll, and repeat two or three times. It’s often worth using professional pans from companies such as Procook, as they will last longer, and will come with specific instructions on how to protect your cookware for longer.
3. Avoid things getting baked on
Many of us now bake our own cakes at home, and the more ambitious might also try making their own bread or other baked goods. The popularity of baking has increased thanks to several popular TV shows that have encouraged people to get back to basics. However, if you’re an amateur who has tried your hand at baking, you’ll know how easy it is to get things stuck on the sides. It’s much easier to prevent sticking than to try and get burnt bits off. Make sure you use either greaseproof paper or silicone pan liners when baking, and you can also butter the sides of the pan to make it easier to slide your finished cake out. If anything is stuck, allow the pan to cool before dunking it in hot soapy water. This will prevent it from warping and ensure your cookware stays in shape. Cooking and baking are very relaxing hobbies enjoyed by people from all walks of life. All it takes is a little imagination, and some basic equipment, and you’ll soon be impressing your loved ones with your new skills. Follow our tips and your cookware can stay looking as good as the day you brought it.
